Its My First Day!
What do I need to know?
What vaccine does my dog need?
Pups from 10 weeks of age and older are allowed to come to day care. Pups must have had at least one C5 vaccine and all dogs must be up to date with their vaccination schedule.
Desexing
Legally, dogs must be desexed by 8 months of age to come to day care however HHPG have a 6-8 month age policy. (Please speak to us if you have a large or giant breed as we may make an exception to the policy depending on behaviour). Why is this our policy? Because dogs mature at different ages and even large dogs can be humped or get humped excessively
Booking
As we allocate an additional carer for our first day kids, we ask that you book your first session via email or over the phone.
Once your dog has been to day care once, you can book your next visit online through our online booking system.
Today’s the day!
Arrival time – between 7am – 9.30am (the earlier the better). Once our new kids arrive, a carer will help settle your dog. The earlier your dog arrives, the sooner they will make friends, settle in their new environment and have fun!
What do I need to bring?
Lunch - If you have a puppy who is still eating lunch, please send their lunch along in a clearly labelled container or ziplock bag.
Collar - Please make sure that your dog is wearing a collar (best to get pups used to wearing a collar prior to their first day of puppy day care) and where possible, the collar should be a quick release collar (snap collar) and not a buckle style collar (like a belt)
Please note, no correction collars and martingale collars are to be worn at day care. Greyhounds and other sight hounds are permitted to wear a soft martingale collar.
Lead – please bring your dog in and take your dog home, on a lead. Retractable leads are a safety issue and should not be used at HHPG.
What if my dogs not feeling 100% before school?
If your dog is not feeling 100% they will not relax and have the fun day that they should.
If your dog is lethargic, throws up (not from car sickness), has discharge from their eyes or nose, or has any type of cough that has not been cleared by the vet please keep them at home and have a chat with your vet. Dogs lick each other, jump on each other, share water bowls and paddle pools and an unwell dog will almost certainly make his friends unwell as well.
HHPG Kennel Cough policy – once your dog has stopped coughing for 7 days, he is welcome to return for some fun with his friends.
Valets
Where possible we always suggest bringing your dog to daycare yourself before using Henri the school bus.
Where that is not possible, please ensure your dog has been toileted before the arrival of Henri, please read our valet information sheet and if your dog requires breakfast but gets car sick, please send the food (clearly labelled) along with your friendly Henri diver.
What can I expect afterwards?
First day kids go through an array of emotions (just like we did when we were introduced to new friends at school)
These emotions are exhausting, so you can expect your dog (especially if he is older or a puppy) to be very tired and they may even decide to skip their meal for the evening! There is no need to be concerned unless your dog has the runs or is not back to their normal happy self the next day.
